Artificial Intelligence (AI) is like having a personal assistant who is incredibly good at learning new things and can help you with a wide range of tasks. AI branches off to Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Generative AI, and Large Language Models (LLM).

  • Machine Learning (ML) is like the general library card catalog. It’s a system that helps you find books on any topic, but it requires you to understand the catalog’s system and sometimes you need to go through a few books to find exactly what you need. ML algorithms use data to learn how to make decisions or predictions, but they need guidance.

  • Deep Learning (DL) is a specialized section within this library, with an advanced catalog system that uses intricate book networks to connect ideas across volumes. It’s like having a librarian who knows every book so well that they can find the deepest connections and patterns that others might miss. DL is a subset of ML that uses neural networks with many layers (hence ‘deep’) to learn from vast amounts of data.

  • Generative AI is like an imaginative author in the library. Given a topic or a few starting points, this author can write new books that fit seamlessly into the library’s collection. Generative AI can create new content, whether it’s text, images, or music, that is similar to what it has learned from existing data.

  • Large Language Models (LLMs) are like the master storytellers of the library. They’ve read and understood every book, and they can tell you stories that combine elements from across the entire library. They can answer your questions, write in the style of different authors, or even create new tales. LLMs are a type of generative AI that specialize in understanding and generating human language at a large scale.

So, in this library of AI, machine learning is your entry point, deep learning provides depth, generative AI adds creativity, and large language models bring it all together with a mastery of language and communication.
