Adobe Acrobat: Creating a digital certificate signiture

  2. From Menu, select PREFERENCES:

  1. Select Signatures:


  1. Select More from the Identities & Trusted Certificates category:

  1. Select the Windows Digital ID tab the select the NAME button:

  1. Select A new digital ID I want to create now:

  1. You will have two options to choose from:

  • New PKCS#12 Digital ID File:

    • This option creates a local file (with a .pfx extension on Windows and .p12 on macOS) that contains your digital ID.

    • The file is password-protected and can be moved between different computers and operating systems.

    • You need to back up this file securely because if it's lost or corrupted, you won't be able to use your digital ID.

  • Windows Certificate Store:

    • This option stores your digital ID in the Windows Certificate Store, a centralized location on your Windows computer.

    • Other Windows applications can access the digital ID from this store, making it more integrated with the system.

    • This method ties the digital ID to the specific computer and user, and it cannot be easily transferred to another computer.

  1. Fill out the fields below and click Finish:

  • If you choose New PKCS#12 Digital ID File you will have to create a password for the signiture then click Finish
